David Inglis is Professor of Sociology at the University of Helsinki. He holds degrees in sociology from the Universities of Cambridge and York. He is founding editor of the journal Cultural Sociology. He writes in, and blends together, the areas of cultural sociology, historical sociology, and social theory. He has written and edited multiple books in these areas. He is particularly interested in comparing pre-modern civilizations and modern societies. He is currently chair of the Finnish Sociological Association, the Westermarck Seura. Current writing concerns include globalization and cosmopolitization, the nature of Brexit, masks and masking, the historical sociology of plagues, the sociology of translation, the concept of ‘Eurasia’, critique of post-colonial sociology, fashion in pre-modern contexts, and the long-term analysis of wine-related phenomena.
