Filippa Flaherty is a doctoral student in Sociology at Linnaeus University, Sweden. Her research focuses on processes of meaning-making and identity in group cultures, deviance, and politicization. Her doctoral project is an ethnographic study of drag culture in Scandinavia, examining how drag culture is shaped by processes of stigmatization and commercialization. Specifically, the project explores how drag artists use play, humor, and performance to negotiate stigma, construct belonging, and navigate the cultural boundaries of gender and sexuality. Filippa was a Visiting Assistant in Research (VAR) at CCS during the fall 2025.
