Guicheng Liu is a Ph.D. candidate in Art Theory at Peking University, specializing in Theater and Performance Studies. Drawing on perspectives from cultural sociology, his work focuses on people’s theater, inter-Asian networks of theater and performance, and the relationship between art and social transformation. His doctoral dissertation examines the transnational circulation of people’s theater in the Asian context and its role in shaping a civic sphere, analyzing how theater functions as a medium of cultural collaboration and social expression. He is also interested in how performance serves as an intercultural method that connects political experience, collective memory, and aesthetic practice, with particular attention to intercultural theater and Asian performance art.
