Ivana Spasić earned her BA, MA and PhD in sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. She has pursued advanced studies at Warsaw University, CEU in Budapest, Maison des sciences de l’homme and CERI-Sciences Po in Paris. In 2009 she was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Center for Cultural Sociology, Yale University, where she has remained a Faculty Fellow. Spasić teaches courses in sociological theory and cultural sociology, at all three levels of study at the Department of Sociology. In addition, she is a visiting professor at faculties of political science in Belgrade and in Sarajevo, BiH. For two academic years, she taught Sociology of Culture at the Faculty of Music, Belgrade. Her career began at the Institute of Philosophy and social Theory (1996-2003). Since 1995, Spasić has continuously been part of research teams in macroprojects supported by the Ministry of Science, and is currently working on two of them (“Challenges of New Social Integration in Serbia: Concepts and Actors,” and “Politics of Social Memory and National Identity: Regional and European Context”). She has also participated in five international projects. For her book Culture at Work, Spasić won the Vojin Milić Best Sociology Book Award for 2013. She has been editor-in-chief of Sociologija and member of editorial or advisory boards of a number of national and international scholarly journals. Member of European Sociological Association, International Association for Southeast European Anthropology, Memory Studies Association, and Association of Literary Translators of Serbia.
