J. Patrick Williams is Associate Professor of Sociology at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and President of the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. He has published widely on the digital interactions and experiences of individuals who self-identify as subcultural and is particularly interested in the social construction of subcultural identities and authenticities on social media. He has authored or edited a number of books, including Authenticity in Culture, Self, and Society (2009), Subcultural Theory: Traditions and Concepts (2011), Studies on the Social Construction of Identity and Authenticity (2020), and Interpreting Subcultures; Approaching, Contextualizing, and Embodying Sense-Making Practices in Alternative Cultures (2024).
