Laura Desfor Edles is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at California State University, Northridge. A founding graduate student member of the “culture club” at UCLA, she is the author of Symbol and Ritual in the New Spain: The Transition to Democracy after Franco (1998, Cambridge University Press), Cultural Sociology in Practice (2002, Blackwell Publishers), and a variety of sociological theory textbooks (co-authored with Scott Appelrouth, Sage Publications).
