Nicolás earned his B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His research examines the intersections of culture, violence, and democracy. He has published research on university-based leftist revolutionary movements in Colombia, focusing on their symbols, codes and ritual practices; on the role of ‘fact-icons’ (factual claims that acquire iconic status) in the making of collective trauma; and on the importance of narrative genre in the discourse of contemporary far-right intellectuals in Latin America.
