Sherry B. Ortner is Distinguished Research Professor of Anthropology (emerita) at UCLA . She has received numerous grants and fellowships, including awards from the Guggenheim Foundation and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. She has done a variety of ethnographic projects - with the Sherpa people of Nepal, with her high school graduating class, and with independent and documentary filmmakers. She has also been a regular contributor to social, cultural, and feminist theory. Her most recent book is Screening Social Justice: Brave New Films and Documentary Activism.
