Upcoming Web Event: Culture and Contemporary Life Series - Diversity in Culture: The Current Landscape and Limitations
CCS Junior Fellow Jiwon Yun is co-organizing a web event, Diversity in Culture: The Current Landscape and Limitations, as part of the ASA Culture Section’s Culture and Contemporary Life Series.
Date: February 27, Friday
Time: 2 PM Eastern Time
Event Description:
The past five years have seen an exponential increase of diversity initiatives as well as an equally matched growth of backlash against the same initiatives. Cultural sectors are no exception. What form did these initiatives take in different cultural industries? What were their limitations? How are diversity initiatives being maintained or dismantled in the current sociopolitical landscape? To answer these questions, the CCL Committee has put together a panel of leading scholars who have examined how racial and ethnic boundaries are evoked, maintained, and traversed in different cultural sectors.
Speakers:
Natasha Warikoo (Tufts University)
Ellen Berrey (University of Toronto)
Laura Garbes (University of Minnesota)
