J. Patrick Williams is Associate Professor of Sociology at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a former President of the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. He has published widely on the digital interactions and experiences of individuals who self-identify as subcultural and is particularly interested in the social construction of subcultural identities and authenticities on social media. He has authored or edited a number of books, including Authenticity in Culture, Self, and Society (2009), Subcultural Theory: Traditions and Concepts (2011), Studies on the Social Construction of Identity and Authenticity (2020), and Interpreting Subcultures; Approaching, Contextualizing, and Embodying Sense-Making Practices in Alternative Cultures (2024).
