Runya Qiaoan is Assistant Professor at the Department of Asian Studies, Palacký University and Senior Researcher at the Department of Sociology, University of Vienna. Her scholarly interests are civil sphere theory, sociology of emotions, and how the two can be combined to decode the evolving civil sphere in China. She is the author of Civil Society in China: How Society Speaks to the State (Routledge, 2021), and her work has been published in journals including Social Movement Studies, Journal of Chinese Political Science, and Philosophy & Social Criticism. Her most recent research focuses on youth disengagement subculture and their impact on social norms.
