The Cultural Sociology Program at Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), México

The Cultural Sociology Program at Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), México centers on the Sociology and Cultural History Thesis Seminar, which was established in 2009. This program brings together academics, doctoral students, and master’s students who meet regularly to develop research projects and publish their work in international journals, book chapters, and other scholarly publications. Our approach integrates sociology and cultural history, allowing for a multidimensional examination of social actions and experiences. The areas of focus include understanding cultural disputes, performance and counter-performance, risks and crises, social drama, cultural trauma, memory, history, digital futures, techno-scientific issues, and anthropo-synthetic frontiers. The primary objectives of the program are to explore two key questions: the nature and manner of social actions and experiences, and the temporal and spatial contexts of these actions and experiences. The program includes Liliana Martínez Pérez, Santiago Carassale Real (founders of the Sociology and Cultural History Seminar), and CCS Faculty Fellow Nelson Arteaga Botello.
