Supper Club

The Advanced Seminar in Cultural Sociology (Supper Club) is an effort to create a forum for student interaction and mutual reading of ongoing student work. The content of this class will be student-authored papers only – probably not seminar papers, but second year papers at various stages of development and, especially, work after the second year – thesis chapters, papers for publications, etc. The idea here is to provide a more informal and more regularly accessible setting than the Friday workshops, which provide only a handful of student slots a year. This class is not designed to be a seminar, but, rather, an institutionalized opportunity for students to read and offer supportive-cum-critical feedback on one another’s papers. It is open only for CCS students or by instructor permission. First-year students with interest and experience in cultural sociology would be welcome. The Supper Club has been held on an occasional basis over the years according to need and has proven to be an excellent incubator for refereed publications. See CCS Supper Club Hall of Fame.
