New Center for Cultural Sociology at Bar Ilan University holds inaugural conference

The new Center for Cultural Sociology at Bar Ilan University, Israel held its launching event on January 2. The conference titled “Reappropriating Durkheim? Cultural Sociology Here and Now” centered on questions of solidarity,  classifications and cultural-moral codes. Eva Illouz made the key note address.  As a side event Danny Kaplan launched his new book titled “The Nation and the Promise of Friendship: Building Solidarity through Sociability” (with Palgrave MacMillan, Cultural Sociology Series edited by Jeffrey Alexander).  The local cultural sociology center is co-directed by CCS-fellows Danny Kaplan and Ilana Silber as well as Ori Schwartz and Hizky Shoham.
