The Advanced Seminar in Cultural Sociology (Supper Culture Club) is an effort to create a new forum for student interaction and mutual reading of ongoing student work. The content of this class will be student-authored papers only – probably not seminar papers, but second year papers at various stages of development and, especially, work after the second year – thesis chapters, papers for publications, etc. The idea here is to provide a more informal and more regularly accessible setting than the Friday workshops, which provide only a handful of student slots a year. This new class is not designed to be a seminar, but, rather, an institutionalized opportunity for students to read and offer supportive-cum-critical feedback on one another’s papers. It is open only for CCS students or by instructor permission. First-year students with interest and experience in cultural sociology would be welcome.
