Elisabeth Becker

CCS Postdoctoral Fellow Elisabeth Becker has published, as Principal Investigator, “An Impact Report of Muslim Contributions to New York City,” as part of the Muslims for American Progress  project of the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding.

From the report:

An educated citizenry is vital to the health of our democracy. Muslims for American Progress (MAP), a project of the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), addresses misconceptions about American Muslims, their religious practices, American society by highlighting their integral contributions to the nation. In this case study, we focus on the contributions of Muslims to the country’s largest city, New York City.

In an article in the Huffinton Post, Coverage Of American Muslims Is Bigoted And Inaccurate. This Group Is Using Hard Facts To Fix It, Elisabeth says, Human contact is probably the most powerful way to change people’s perception and stereotypes. But since that can’t be accomplished on a massive scale, this is the next best way to tell these in-depth stories.
