Jeffrey Alexander receives Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Theory Award

Jeffrey Alexander

CCS Director Jeffrey Alexander was presented with the Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Theory Award by the International Sociological Association’s RC16 Sociological Theory Section at this year’s XIX World Congress of Sociology in Toronto, Canada. RC16 Board Member and CCS Faculty Fellow Ron Jacobs  chaired the award session. Jeff  Alexander delivered a lecture on his significant works.  Previous winners of this prestigious award include Alain Touraine and Zygmunt Bauman.

“This award is granted to a living thinker who has made a significant contribution to sociological theory over the last two decades at least. It is intended to recognize long term achievement rather than the excellence of an individual book or single idea. The winner of the prize will be a thinker held in high standing by sociological theorists throughout the world.” (RC 16 Sociological Theory website)
