New co-authored publication by CCS Fellows published in Acta Sociologica

Sven Hassel Book Cover

A new paper in Acta Sociologica, “From artistic consecration to degradation: The case of Sven Hassel,” written by Dominik Zelinsky (CCS Postdoctoral Fellow), Philip Smith (CCS Co-Director), and Sandra Simonsen (CCS Pre-Doctoral Fellow), explores the phenomenon of “literary degradation” of the Danish writer Sven Hassel. The paper is the first-ever academic analysis of Sven Hassel, likely one of the least known bestselling authors in the world, and his fall from an author once likened to Hemingway and Remarque to a suspicious writer of militaristic pulp. Early versions of this paper were presented by Philip Smith at the CCS Spring Conference and the CCS Workshop in 2019.
